Dominican restaurant offers popular Latin American cuisine, owner shares the American dream – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana weather
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Nulvin Jimenez is a business owner and immigrant. She left Venezuela for the United States years ago to live out her American dream.
Its restaurant, Tu Casa Latin Food, opened over four years ago and offers some of the tastiest and most popular dishes in Latin American cuisine.
Jimenez left New York for Indiana over 20 years ago in search of better living conditions. She started selling food in her own kitchen and now, with the help of her family, she has opened this restaurant.
âI love that we can bring this to our community, and I love how diverse we are,â said Jimenez’s son, Jose Castillo-Jimenez.
Castillo-Jimenez sometimes says he’s in the kitchen or serving food, but it’s the time he spends with his mother that he cherishes the most.
âIt’s a special bond that we can share together because life is so busy. We grow up and⦠we lead our own lives, but that stuff just brings us back together, âhe said.
The restaurant has dishes from places like the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Colombia, but it’s a plate of food called El Pabellon from Venezuela that is his favorite.
âYou can put the sauce on the pulled beef. The beef shred has this great tomato sauce cooked with peppers, and the shredded beef is cooked for a few hours and it’s like steamed, then they cook it, âsaid
âIt’s beef, meat with mofongo. Platanos – they are so delicious. Me being a Mexican, I really recommend Dominican food, âsaid Felipe Flores, a resident of Indianapolis.
âIf you’ve got a dream out there – if you’re Latino, if you’re Hispanic, however you identify with yourself – go for it. Nothing is impossible, âsaid Castillo-Jimenez.
Jimenez says she hopes to expand her business in the future.
