New Cuban and Latin American restaurant arrives in Newport

A new Cuban and Latin American restaurant and rum bar is slated to open in Newport on the Levee in early spring.

Amador is the latest new business to open in Levee.

In Cuba, a local independent restaurant is called a “Paladar,” and it is the main inspiration for what Amador is striving to become, according to a press release.

Nick Pesola, owner of Revolution Rotisserie and self-proclaimed history buff, mixes his love for Latin American culture and creating memorable dining experiences to bring this bold concept to life, according to the announcement. The name Amador pays homage to the deep Spanish roots of Latin America and is a household name common throughout the region, meaning roughly “lover.”

The concept will occupy 6,400 square feet of space, including 3,900 square feet of indoor dining and a 2,500 square foot outdoor patio overlooking the Ohio River, neighboring bridges and the skyline.

The atmosphere will be partly the Miami vibe of the 1980s, partly the Havana nights full of Cuban nostalgia, according to the announcement.

Amador will also feature a bodega-style window with a limited menu across “el callejón”, the lane along the side of the building.

“Our goal with Amador is to create a truly fun and one-of-a-kind experience on all fronts, from the delicious food and craft cocktails to the fun atmosphere. Amador will complement everything that is happening in the area and I hope our guests will feel a bit like on vacation every time they come to dine with us, ”Pesola said. “Newport on the Levee already has a lot of cool stuff going on, so we’re excited to bring something totally different to the mix. Whether it’s grabbing a quick Cuban sandwich out the bodega window or sipping mojitos and sharing a paella with friends while enjoying the sun and the view, we have something for everyone.

Amador is expected to be the first full-service Cuban restaurant in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Customers can expect traditional Cuban dishes like empanadas, croquetas and Cuban sandwiches, as well as many other Latin American dishes such as street tacos, fries and guacamole, queso and salsas. Amador will be a rum bar with cocktails including mojitos, daiquiris and margaritas, in addition to a wide variety of rare Latin American beers, wines and spirits, according to the announcement.

“We really intended to find independent local concepts that bring new and exciting experiences to the community,” said Regan Thomas, Leasing Representative for North American Properties, owner of Newport on the Levee. “The Nick’s Amador concept fits perfectly in Newport on the Levee’s Riverwalk with a large patio and wonderful views in an open container district. It’s the perfect place to get together with family and friends for authentic Cuban dishes and fun cocktails.
