New Mexican-American restaurant opens in Worland
WORLAND — Mexican cuisine returned to 1608 Big Horn Avenue in Worland this year with the opening of Los Tapatios, a Mexican-American restaurant.
Los Tapatios opened on January 17 under the ownership of Alicia Morquecho and her business partner, Mireya Sanchez. The location was the old Habañero restaurant.
Morquecho has worked in the restaurant business since he was 14, and Sanchez has a restaurant in Evanston, where they had the idea of opening another restaurant in Worland.
“We have people here going to Evanston and they’re like, ‘Oh, why don’t you open a restaurant in Worland? ‘” Morquecho said. “So we came over and looked at the place and decided yes ‘they would open one here.
She added: “It was a very nice place and all the people were very nice. We are very happy here.”
According to Morquecho, the name comes from the fact that her husband is from Jalisco, Mexico, and the people there are called los tapatios.
Some of the most popular items on the menu are the macho burrito, molcajete, carne asada, and carnitas. American fare includes burgers and fries and a BLT.
They currently have seven employees and are hiring. They are open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
