Tried Billericay New South American Restaurant and it was one of the best food I have ever eaten – Hope Woolston

New restaurants are always exciting to visit.

Here in Essex we are spoiled for choice, and new ones are appearing regularly.

One of the most recent to open is Urban Fresh in Billericay.

Attached to The White Horse pub, Urban Fresh serves South American inspired cuisine.

The restaurant has a very modern decor and has brought something new to the city.

Life Writer Hope Woolston was invited to see what it looked like.

From the outside, Urban Fresh looks like part of a traditional British pub.

However, when you step inside it is completely different.

It has a fresh, contemporary look with dark walls and tables complemented by colorful lighting.

The restaurant has a number of eye-catching features, including a wall of graffiti and a huge wine rack.

Urban Fresh is very modern

Keep in mind that this is an old building as some beams are low enough for anyone over 5’7 ‘.

As soon as we (my fiance and I) arrived we were treated to amazing service.

All of the staff we encountered were friendly and seemed to really enjoy their jobs.

The restaurant is divided into three dining rooms including a private reception room (which looks amazing).

It wasn’t too crowded when we went so everyone was seated in the raised area.

We were given a table in the corner – perfect for us as it really gives you some privacy.

The whole place had a relaxed feel, with warm lighting helping you feel super relaxed.

I also really like music. Most of them were modern songs but played in a more relaxed style.

We were given our menus and left alone for a few minutes to decide what we wanted.

Carne Pegajosa - Sticky Beef from South America
Carne Pegajosa – Sticky Beef from South America

So many items on the menu looked tasty.

All dishes are inspired by the flavors of South America, with dishes from countries such as Argentina, Peru and Brazil.

We ended up opting for the Vieiras – Pan-Seared Scallops with Morcilla Black Pudding, Chorizo and Blackened Cauliflower (£ 11) and the Carne Pegajosa – Sticky Beef from South America (£ 10)

We didn’t have to wait long for our entrees to arrive and when they did they looked great.

Neither of us had ever tried scallops before, but we always wanted to.

It was my other half’s dish, and he really enjoyed it. I also tried a bite of scallop and the taste was delicious.

However, for me, my starter completely stole the show.

The sticky beef was amazing.

There was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy and the meat was cooked to perfection.

I wouldn’t try other entrees because it was so amazing. I would always order the same.

After the huge success of our entrees, we were super excited for our main courses.

The incredible sector

My Brazilian fish stew
My Brazilian fish stew

I ordered the Moqueca (Brazilian fish stew) a mixture of monkfish, king prawns and haddock (£ 18) and my fiance chose the Wagyu burger in a pretzel bun with wasabi mayo, truffle infused shallots and served with fries (£ 18).

My fish stew was really delicious.

It had so many pieces of fish and a nice creamy sauce with flavors of coconut and tomato.

Some staff asked me what the spice level was for me and I can honestly say it was perfect.

It was like it was made for my taste buds, even though no one had asked me before how much heat I like.

I like the spices a bit, but not too much. This dish was the perfect balance, I could really enjoy it but also take a kick.

It was the perfect meal for a cold winter evening as it certainly warmed me up.

The crusty bread it was served with was great for soaking up all the sauce, so not a single piece was wasted.

The Wagyu burger
The Wagyu burger

My fiance enjoyed his burger so much. He actually described it as the best burger he has ever had.

The meat was perfect and cooked exactly the way he likes it. It had just the right amount of sauce for it, without drowning the burger like some places do.

He also really enjoyed the pretzel bread and chili onion rings he had on the side.

Although it is quite expensive for a burger he said he would not hesitate to order it again because he enjoyed it so much.

The delicious desserts

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake
Dulce de Leche cheesecake

Although we both felt very full we couldn’t resist taking a look at the dessert menu.

From an Argentinian family, I know Dulce de Leche very well, so it was impossible for me not to try the cheesecake (£ 7) from the Urban Fresh menu.

My partner ordered the Chocolate Coconut Truffle Pie (£ 7).

When they arrived we were very impressed.

They looked amazing. It was clear that a lot of effort had been put into the presentation.

However, the appearance of the dishes was nothing compared to the taste.

My Dulce de Leche cheesecake was so forgiving. It was thick and creamy, possibly the smoothest cheesecake I have ever eaten.

The caramel taste was perfect, it was so delicious.

The chocolate pie was also very popular. It was full of flavor and the coconut ice cream served with it was fantastic.

In addition to our food, we enjoyed a few drinks throughout the night.

I tried a mojito, my favorite cocktail. It was just as it should and was very well presented.

On recommendation, I also tried a Pisco Sour – Pisco is a very popular alcohol in Peru and with chili.

Some of our drinks
Some of our drinks

Although not my usual type of drink, it was very enjoyable.

It tasted very similar to tequila but without the burn (which I hate).

My fiance had a few Blue Moon beers which he was a huge fan of.

He also tried the Old Fashioned cocktail, recommended by Bar Manager Luke.

The Old Fashioned was something

An Old Fashioned is one of her favorites anyway, but it was something special.

It came served in a bell, full of smoke. The lid was lifted, letting the smell of oak smoke fill our area.

He was very impressed. Not only was it fantastic, but the theater was a great addition.

I really loved my meal
I really loved my meal

Urban Fresh’s food is enough to recommend it to everyone.

It was definitely one of, if not the best meal I have ever had.

The prices are higher than at many standard restaurants, but it’s worth every penny.

However, there are so many more reasons to try this place.

You are treated incredibly well by the staff, who are always on hand to help in any way they can – even filling your water with a bottle you already have on your table.

The atmosphere is also great. It’s modern but also very relaxed.

Overall we had a fantastic experience at Urban Fresh and can’t wait to go back.
